Every athlete who comes into Backyard Bullpens goes through a full evaluation process so we can identify exactly what is holding them back from performing at a higher level. We don’t believe in guessing.We believe in testing, measuring, and building individualized plans around the athlete in front of us.
We begin with a full ArmCare assessment to evaluate:
• Shoulder range of motion
• External/Internal rotation capacity
• Scapular function
• Arm strength & stability
• Readiness and recovery markers
This gives us a baseline understanding of how the arm is functioning and helps identify stress points or deficiencies before they become injuries.
Using Flex Pro Grip testing, we analyze:
• Individual finger strength
• Flexor/extensor balance
• Grip output
• Weaknesses throughout the hand, wrist, and forearm chain
Most throwing limitations aren’t just “arm problems.”
Weakness in the fingers, forearm, or grip can drastically affect velocity, command, recovery, and overall arm health.
This testing helps us identify hidden leaks that traditional evaluations often miss.
Next, we evaluate the athlete’s:
• Lower half strength
• Rotational power
• Hip mobility
• Thoracic mobility
• Scapular control
• Stability and force production
Our goal is to identify the “lowest hanging fruit” — the physical qualities that can improve performance the fastest.
Sometimes the biggest velocity gains come from:

After physical testing, we watch the athlete throw.
